After weeks months of dark, rainy, dreich weather at last a SUNNY DAY!!! I determined to spend the whole day out of doors, walking, scootering and swimming. Duggie suggested heading out in the fishing boat to the middle of the Sound of Jura on this cloudless, windless, beautiful afternoon and diving into the 400 feet deep water; we thought this sounded perfect, so off we went. Duggie stopped the engine as we reached the mid-point of the Sound and after quite a bit of “bracing” Lottie dived in, followed by Duggie and finally myself. It was 6 degrees yesterday and felt glacial, but today it was beautifully refreshing. Bathed in the astounding sight of the Paps of Jura with the sun setting behind them, we floated around, swam, dived and jumped, marvelling at the thought that we can just decide to do this kind of thing, and how lucky we are to be able to do it. Heading back, we watched the sunset sending blue and silvery yellow beams cascading out from the Paps and the rolling wake reflected these colours gently into the distance. To the east the full moon rose majestically above our bay.

It was better than fishing any day – I’ll have lovely memories of swan diving from the wheel house roof into the fathomless Sound of Jura!

Lovely. It’s been some time since I swam up there and it was twice as warm!
